Could anybody please tell me if a Seat Leon extended warranty would typically cover problems with a clutch master cylinder ?

Nb Not sure if that is the problem - clutch pedal has not returned twice today but then works fine. Bit disappointed after 40,000 miles of very careful driving.

Thank you

It will depend, first of all, on the terms of the extended warranty. Some exclude items from cover or only cover those specifically included.

Is it a Volkswagen Group extended warranty applied to a car bought new or from a franchised dealer as Approved Used?

Bought new from a franchised dealer and extended as part of a service plan and breakdown recovery plan. Thanks

On that basis I'd expect it to cover a failed clutch master cylinder, assuming that is indeed the problem.

I think the first thing needed is a visit to the dealer to get the fault diagnosed.

Quite a few hits on Google for Leons with sticky clutch pedals.

Thanks for your help - appreciated.

Hope its something simple - the small print can be a killer.

Scratching my head for something simple.

Having owned a Leon and had an extended warranty I can confirm that Seat warranties bought for cars when new cover far more than warranties bought later. If bought when new the warranty provides exactly the same cover as the original manufacturers warranty, the warranty bought later has a longish list of exclusions. There is no excess to pay on a warranty bought for a new vehicle, form memory it was £200 a claim on the warranty bought later.

Never found out how good the warranty was, the car was fault free.

Paid for warranty not at time of original purchase, but 3 years later from same franchise- so guess its not as good as when taken out on date of original purchase.

Considering my slow driving and low mileage I was interested some much in the warranty, but the service and breakdown package. They seem to have quite a good reputation (?) so wasn't expecting any major mechanical problems for some time.

My previous Fiesta got to over 10 years old with next to nothing other than bulbs !

Which engine do you have? The clutch design varies between versions especially re slave cylinder.

The engine specification is a 1.2 TSI -110 PS

I am clutching to the idea that the problem could be something simple - no pun intended !

Thanks

That's good news if you have to fix the issue at your expense - the smaller cc tsi manual versions have an external slave cylinder. This has an integral release valve (protects gearbox etc if you release the clutch very abruptly ) which can fail especially if clutch fluid has never been replaced. Fortunately replacing slave cylinder usually sorts this and because the slave is external it's a simpler / cheapish job. Ie do this first - well after trying to get the dealer to sort it free!

I had something similar happen - apparently the fluid that came out of the clutch looked horrendous. I now always ask for the clutch fluid to be replaced at the same time as the brake fluid (same reservoir on VAG cars).

That's interesting and has cheered me up!

The last thing I need at the moment is a large unexpected bill - so perhaps it wont be as bad as I think.

Completely out of my depth with the mechanics of this, so I really appreciate you sharing your experience. Thank you.
