Hi all,

I would like get your advice regarding changing the all four tires for new one.

Currently the car is fitted with that tyres by previous owner:

front axle: CLV2 Trailblazer all season with about 3mm thread left;

rear axle: CLV2 Trailblazer (6mm thread) and o Sunwide Conquest (6mm thread), but this looks like summer tyre.

As the winter is coming, I just wondering if I should replace all four tyres, as the front one are nearly done, and on the rear are two different types of tyres, which I believe is not good.

I'm considering the Toyo Proxes CF2 225/65 R17 102H SUV, which are about £105 per tyre fully fitted.

What do you think guys ? These tyres needs to be replaced for the safety driving, or am I overeager?

Best Regards,

Tom

Hello Tom,

Is your CR-V 2WD or 4WD? If the latter, I believe that the drivetrain can be damaged if there is a marked difference in tread depth between the tyres.

Personal view, but I’d be wanting to change from ditch finder tyres on a fairly weighty SUV, irrespective of whether it’s 2WD or 4WD.

If you are looking at Toyo check out the Celsius all season option. Just had four fitted to a Yaris and the grip on slippery autumn surfaces is an excellent, no scrabbling from take off unlike the Dunlop summer OEMs.

Black circles stock them.

The Trailblazer tyres are made by Landsail. They're budget, but sort of OK. The Sunwide is a random Chinese ditchfinder.

It's not good practice to have different tyres on the same axle. Ideally, get four new ones. If that's too expensive, move the fronts to the back and get new front tyres, but you'll need to replace the old ones quite soon.

I replaced two Toyos on the back of my Mazda CX-5 (Toyos are original, I believe) with Pirelli and find them much less harsh.

Hi Tom,
I had two company CRV’s. When the original summer Continental tyres wore out we had Goodyear Wranglers fitted. Never got stuck off-roading, farm and forestry tracks summer / winter rain or snow. Far better vehicle than given credit for.
