Change photo with a D46P - jessica kinchin-harris

I am soon reaching the age of 70 and need to apply for a renewal of my driving licence.

I keep seeing that I can change my photo at the same time, and I want to do this as the one on my existing licence is very old (over 10 years as I did not have to renew after 10 years due to being close to 70). However, I cannot see how to do this. It seem that it cannot be done online unless you can use a passport photo and on the D46P it only says you do not need to provide a photo, and no info as to how you would like to provide one.

I assume you can send a photo.
Is it free as again info seems to say you can change it at the same time?
Do you have to validate the photo?
I cannot find any reference to this question online
Maybe someone here knows?

I know this sounds a silly question and I can just send a photo with the application but with all the delays to get a new licence I do not want to do it wrong.

Thank you
Jessica

Hi Jessica

I'm not 100% sure on this one but it looks like you might be able to get a new photo taken at the post office as part of the process of renewing your license, they then send it off to DVLA for you.

Here's a link, let us know if it makes sense

Frankly I wouldn't bother about the photo...mine is also over 10 years old and I've recently renewed my licence online and the new one came within 3 days.!!

The photos are not exactly "clarity personified" after all and I found there was very little obvious difference/change so I simply didn't bother..and had no problems at all.

If I recall, some of the government's ID thingies share photos digitally now - though a passport photo has to be without your glssses on, whereas a driver's licence may ironically need them on.
