Dacia Jogger - Small Turbo GDI engine - dan86

After separation from my wife for nearly two years I've been living life as I've wanted and have bought and then got rid of some fun and exciting cars. I now need a more family suitable car and decided on the Dacia jogger #1 because of its price # because it's has just enough equipment with. One of the annoying stuff you don't want and #3 it's has a warranty that I wouldn't get with a second hand 7 seater at the price I paid.

My question is what fuel to use. I've always used standard petrol and diesel fuel in run of them I'll family cars only using the super stuff in more spottier cars, but this being my first small turbo GDI engine car would it be beneficial to use the super petrol to help stop carbon build up on the valves etc.

The extra additive/cleaner in super petrol won't help the carbon build-up in a direct injection (GDI) engine as it's injected straight into the cylinders, bypassing the inlet manifold.

Dacia sell well in less developed countries where the fuel quality is poorer than the UK, so no reason to use super petrol in it.

That was part of my thinking behind the Dacia purchase as they tend to be basic and reliable. I doubt super unleded will make a performance difference in such a small 110 hp engine and I've never seen the fuel economy gains be greater than the price difference before either

It will make zero difference to fuel economy as your engine is set up to run on 95. Anything higher is not necessary. The only benefit a normal car will get from Super is additional detergents.

That used to be true re economy although with my Superb 1.4tsi I found driving was better with a higher octane petrol I try to use Tesco Green energy 99 RON (95 RON petrol could be heard "pinking" in certain circumstances).

However since the recent change of 95 RON petrol to E10 this has changed things a bit - Higher octane petrol is still E5 which has more calorific value(more economical).

That was something I was thinking about, last car was deisel not driven a petrol since the change over and everyone I know with a petrol has said since the e10 fuel they've had worse economy

That cos of the extra ethanol content u be getting 10 percent worse fuel economy

everyone I know with a petrol has said since the e10 fuel they've had worse economy

Since last September our Fabia 1.0 TSi has used E10 on every fill up (mostly Tesco) and according to the spreadsheet its averaged 46.05mpg. Over the previous 12 months using E5 it averaged 46.94 mpg. A difference but a small one, about 2%.It could be down to E10 but our annual mileage has fallen by about 35% over the same period with fewer longer trips and I suspect this will have had an effect on reducing the figure, possibly more that the introduction of E10 fuel.

That cos of the extra ethanol content u be getting 10 percent worse fuel economy

Prior to E10 we had E5 so its only a 5% difference. But even Ethanol has some calorific value so the difference would never be that big.

If your mpg has fallen 10% look elsewhere for a cause.

Ethanol has about 33% less energy than pure unleaded, so the difference between B5 and B10 can only be 5% of 33%, ie about 1.7% - consistent with your Fabia experience.

Hi.

Did you ever get an answer to your question and what was the outcome?

Hi.

Reading through the answers two years ago, the answer was fairly clear. Use the ordinary 95 RON E10 unleaded.

Whether dan86 is still on here to tell us about his Jogger is a different matter!

........would it be beneficial to use the super petrol to help stop carbon build up on the valves etc.

No. Although often mentioned, I think carbon build up is a much smaller problem than some people believe. There are now millions of DI engines around accumulating lots of miles with not much evidence of a surge of complaints about early engine problems or failure. My own preventive maintenance consists of using correct spec oil, changing it every 10k miles and a regular 'Italian tune-up' - although not usually as long as 4000+ rpm for 20mins which I've seen recommended.
