I was expecting a Reliant 3-wheeler. What a disappointment.

I always quite liked these, once Rover had sorted out the problems with the early cars, these were quite well sorted and were good value used. The facelift worked well. The 827 was the Honda engine so reliable but probably quite thirsty.

Thrashing one did around 12 mpg, 827 Si I had just managed 28 in town, I had wanted one for years but couldn`t find a good one, most were bad bodies ie slightly dented and priced as immaculate, but found a one owner who looked after it fully serviced, he bought a BMW instead so sold the Rover, I only sold it 2 years later as tappets wanted doing but didn`t have time to sort, so sold it. good car imo

I had a couple of 820s - one company then one personally owned. Nice to drive, reasonable performance, traditional British build quality - dire!

I made a fortune flogging used 820’s in the 90’s. An easy sale when strategically parked next to a similarly aged and priced Cavalier or Mondeo. The Mk II’s were actually pretty well sorted and rarely went wrong beyond the occasional electric window switch or shonky central locking. I liked the look and the 2.0 petrol went very well, really the V6’s were pretty unnecessary. At low to moderate speeds they weren’t much quicker. The 2.0 Turbo Vitesse was a good GT. No sports car as it was softly sprung but as a gutsy exec it was a good buy.

Agree....my Vitesse wasn't troublesome at all apart from a couple of air-con issues (pipes)..I even towed with it for while but then sold it for a Shogun to do the job..but the Vitesse hardly noticed the caravan on the back tbh (was only a small-ish 2 berth).

It was great to drive and certainly well able to get down the road very quickly.!

Our local Plod had a Vitesse as their ARV at the time..it came into our dealership a couple of times.
