VW Jetta - DSG Problem - killie77

Hi

Have done a search on the Forum and I see their have been quite a few issues with the DSG box. Up until now I haven't found any ,until yesterday, went to pull away from the lights the Car started to move then stopped. No amount of acceleration would move it forward or backward. Managed to get it pushed round the corner. The engine was running fine, and the gear selector was able to be moved along the slot. On the dash their their is a guide to which gear you are in all the letters were flashing. Called out the RAC all they could do was tow me home, not to far a distance. Chap took a look and said DSG nobody wants to mess with those gearboxes ??

I asked if he would put his code reader on the Car but his reply as don't think it would do any good. Well not the greatest service but it did it at least get me home.As the Car is now in the driveway I'm not sure how to go forward. I can't drive it to a garage. So I'm wondering if anyone knows any Auto Gearbox people in Glasgow, who would come to the house to diagnose the problem.

Thanks

Ian

Unfortunately, this is unlikely to be a cheap fix . You haven’t added the age of the car, which could mean this is not an economic repair. First check would be to inspect the fuses in the engine bay box . There is one specific fuse for the dsg system . Can’t help with any repair shops in your area , but may be worth joining a VW forum that could help you .

First step would be to ring one or two autobox specialists and give the symptoms Drive failure and dash showing all gears. Could be clutch failure in the gearbox or may be the selector mechanism itself. Have you tried moving the car on the drive in any gear since. As above google DSG and problems to get some idea of how they work

Thanks for the replies. Contacted an Auto Gearbox specialist in Clydebank, only a couple of miles from me. They would need me to bring it in to them. So I just have to sort a way of getting it down to them. Their quoting roughly £47 plus vat for an hour's labour which would include diagnostic of the Gearbox. I'll see how that goes and hopefully report back.

Thanks for the info re the Fuse Box. I'll have a look at that. My also look at the Brake Switch as that links up to the Gearbox.

A faulty brake light switch is not going to stop the car moving .

Hundreds (probably thousands) of other owners have suffered DSG issues over the last 20 or so years (inclusing me in 2007)

Look at VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda owners sites for similar issues and details of local specialists who are happy to work on them.
