Peugeot 3008 - Dealership free service rip off? - Radam87

Hi

My partner bought a Peugeot 3008 which was not due a service for 6 months. The deal included a free service which unbeknownst to her they carried out hours before she went to collect the car. Is there a grounds for complaint here? 2018 plate.

Why? Many dealers include a "free" service with used cars. Many buyers will get peace of mind, although the service is likely just an oil change and tyre kick. The dealer doesn't want you getting it serviced a few months after the deal and returning with a list of allegedly urgent, must be fixed faults. Same as including a fresh MoT.

If the vehicle has been on the books a while it is usually serviced before handover. If it’s flipped quickly they may wait until it is due and do it free of charge.

I'm not clear what you would be complaining about, if you are given something 'free' ?

I imagine the OP had in mind the first service after the sale, not before it.

A son has had an ongoing argument with a Franchised Dealer,

2 years ago he bought a brand new car - offer of the week/month was a Free Service or Extras on the car.

The 2 years are up this month and he phoned to book it in for an FOC service.

It is not on your invoice and and we have no proof of the offer as the "staff are all new"

The son had their on-line advert saved on his Mac and sent them the dealer - they still denied that was the deal. 2 weeks later he made them an offer they could not refuse.

I will book my car into XYZ Main Dealer, get an invoice and send it to you. I will give you 10 days to pay. Failing that, I will go to the small claims court and you will be liable for all expenses on top of the Invoice and there might be comments on social media about the court case after that.

Even with that it took 3 days for them to reply, well they did not reply, but my D-i-L got the Group Finance Director for the firm as they supply vans & such like to her employer - sorted in 30 minutes.

Booked in for Friday of next week - internal cost of a service "Buttons " but neither the Service department/sales or the Branch Management wanted to take the charge.

Another chain that will not see any of the family buying cars in the future.

He was not so lucky with another car - somebody rammed the corner of another car they own and drove off - broken headlight/bumper out of line, scraped etc etc. BMW headlight list is 4 figures. Insurer - very good so far, now at local garage but no sign of when he will get it back - awaiting parts!

First Insurance claim and he has been driving 30+ years - he has had bumps but 3rd party insurer paid on each occasion.
