So, took the boss down to the Dealer this morning and showed her the cars.

Was offered a pre-reg (pre reg late sept 2021) Ventura Manual in white, 6 speed, has front and rear parking sensors and reversing camera plus all the bells and whistles.

The ELX base model that i was considering does not have the camera and sensors, or half leather heated seats and no parcel shelf cover, or upper floor boot cover.. No android auto either..and a couple of other missing bits.

SWMBO chose, deal done.

SSangyong Korea have been rescued from bankruptcy by Edison a Korean bus builder. SSangyong had failed to meet a debt payment of $40m US IIRC

This is not the first time SSangyong was in trouble, hopefully all goes well.

Hope you enjoy the new car ORB - wasn’t from Prestons was it by any chance?

As a caravanner speaking to those on site with a Ssangyong they seem a fairly
happy bunch - hopefully you will be too!

Funnily enough I have just returned from a day trip to France in the wife’s E class Merc. In every respect it was a capable car for the journey - couldn’t help think though that it’s predecessor (2017 Zafira) was more comfortable.

Digressing completely - travel to / from France was an absolute doddle - done all the necessary paperwork and it went like a dream - a grand total of 12 cars on the ferry made for a peaceful trip!

Yes it was, Lovely family dealership. Given time to browse, 2 test drives on different days, ok to change vehicle after ordering.. How nice is that? A less traumatic experience by far. Collect next saturday.

Back to travel.. Going to Portugal was easy 3 minutes at passport control lisbon.

Nearly an hour at Luton on return, but once queue separated into Brit and "others" brit side 5 minutes.

I like Korando and may go for it as my next car. Though I prefer the automatic version. They come with long warranty. Main concern is general reliability (so that don't have to do frequent dealer trips). Their fuel economy is not great but post pandemic that's not big concern for me.

Did I miss something? What happened to the Kia?

Sorry to sound negative but as much as the new model is a vast improvement on previous generations these are regarded as a budget brand by the trade and hammered when it comes to part-exchange. Dealers just don’t want them, same issue with MG’s and it’ll worsen dramatically if they pull out of the UK market. The firm has recently been saved from yet another bankruptcy by an unknown commercial vehicle firm with limited funding and they’ve been struggling to sell any sustainable numbers in the UK. I can see them pulling out along with Subaru and Mitsubishi, it’s just too costly to develop cars that meet emissions regs in Europe and the UK. The Sportage was the better car regarding value retention but I doubt it’ll ever go wrong. Just don’t be changing this one anytime soon.

Good luck ORB.. a bit too much of a "left field" choice for me but I hope it works out for you long term.

Ah, didn’t see it. That’s a shame, the Kia was a nice wee car. I hope this one is comfortable for you ORB, guess there’s decreasing options for those of us unwilling to spend £30k or so on a hybrid or EV. I would’ve went used personally to avoid depreciation but the Ssangyong does have a reputation for being robust so it should last well.

No worries,Slo,

There was very little choice in the seat height I wanted in new or pre-reg or even used low miles.

Sportage no longer available till new model in spring, except for cars "en route" and hybrid only for new models, so atmospheric prices too.

No, I didn't want an MGHS after my previous experience.

Perhaps the most important thing is that the boss has been with me for a test drive and approves, and indeed wanted the pre-reg that i have bought.

Does your new one come with a 'ball and chain' holder? :-)

If you look at the photos of the centre console, there are two cupholders strategically placed.

No handbrake to interfere with chain....
