Where to see upcoming auction cars? - Warning

I was after a particular car. No longer in production.

Main dealers selling at silly prices as so few around. Only about 9 for sale in the country....

Is there a way to see what is coming up in car auction? Is there a central site?

Have you joined relevant Facebook groups, or owners’ groups? They will know what’s around and what may be coming to market.
But no, there is no central database of what’s coming to auction.

If you are an obvious outsider there is the risk that somebody(ies) will bid you up to near retail money. Plus you will have to pay auction fees.

It's a real closed shop. If you didn't win but the price was too high it might go round again next week.

There is a whole world of skullduggery there mia culpa.

What do you mean, 'mia culpa' ? Is it your fault somehow ?

Or mea culpa

Mia Culpa (not her real name) was an Italian actress who occupied a niche role in Spaghetti Westerns.

She has been described as "The Sophia Loren of The Saddle" (David Ansen (Newsweek)

The days of the public bagging a bargain at auction are long gone. Skyrocketing fees for one off buyers mean you’re not saving much and much of the stock at auction is there because it was rejected by the main dealer as being substandard. The only potential savings come from nearly new fleet stock but even then the bulk of the decent stuff goes direct to main dealers and never passes through the ring or you’ll find one of their buyers bidding fortunes for it.

I’d pay extra for a good example from a reputable dealer or I’d buy privately with precautions if you want to save money but aren’t overly risk averse. At auction you can’t properly assess a vehicle and a mistake can cost you dear.

If what the OP is after is a 'classic' (using a broad definition of classic) it could be the sort of thing that turns up at Matthewson's at Thornton-le-dale, featured on 'Bangers and Cash' currently on Yesterday Channel

Even if they don't have one at present, they may well point him to a reputable dealer who may.

Bangers and Cash seems to be on an endless loop just now - it's been running for several months to my knowledge and shows no sign of ending (channel 25 freeview).

Outside of specialists there are only really 3 auction groups - in order of size BCA, Manheim and Aston Barclay. So setup with all of them and subscribe to email alerts for whatever you are looking for.
