I need some advise, im a single mum whos had an awful year so please be nice. I bought a car off facebook last February and then my houseboat sank in March which took a couple of months to right and get cleared out, so i guess i just lost track. I am going to scrap the car before its MOT runs out and ive just realised i dont have a V5 for it. its been fully taxed and insured in my name but am i going to get into trouble for not chasing up the registration and how can i get one now so i ca scrap it, please advise

How did you manage to tax it without a V5?

I'd tend to assume the V5 was lost when the houseboat sank.

But for the OP, surely just apply for a new V5 via the relevant form?. People lose them all the time, can't be that difficult to get a replacement.

don't worry you can apply for a replacement V5C.

You can do this on a form V62 or online if easier.

Get a vehicle log book (V5C) - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Should take 5 days and will cost £25

If you were able to tax it using the new keeper slip then the probability is that the V5 has been re-issued in your name. If you've had the chaos that goes with loss/flooding of your home and mail being re-directed then it's no surprise that stuff falls through the slats.

Try requesting a new one on line.
