Paint scuff car park - Johndoe67812
I was at a car park. The owner of car in front is alleging that I have caused paint scuff. I gave insurance details but denied liability.

It seems very minor.

Sorry but the quality of the photo is not great and I can't really see what the scuff looks like.

How is he alleging you caused it? Was there in fact contact? Does he seem like the sort of person who would try it on?

I would inform your insurance company that you have given details to the third party. Have a careful think about whether it's possible that you did cause the damage. If you absolutely know it wasn't you, then report it as an attempted insurance scam.

Others with more legal knowledge will jump in.

The scuff is the small white marks just above the number plate. Admittedly my car was very close behind but I wasn’t aware of any contact as I would have felt it. It’s only when an
Announcement was made in the supermarket that I became aware.

Presumably your car is white? Is there any corresponding mark on your car aligning with the height of the scuff to the other. These type of marks will often polish out. Any mark to the others paint would suggest you may have touched hard enough to feel some impact. The other car may well have touched yours! As there are no witnesses probably to settle without insurance company being involved. These minor scrapes happen all the time, some return to their car and find really serious damage and with no redress!

So from your description, the driver of the other car was not in the vehicle, so raises a question as to an eye witness as to the alleged damage. He only saw it on returning to his car and put 2+2 together. Or it’s previous damage and trying it on.

I’d suggest a hike was in order.

Or offer as a gesture of goodwill without admission of liability, 50-50 of the cost of a smart repair.

I had this a while back when I was waiting in my car in a carpark and the driver reversed and claimed for the horrendous damage to her car. I was sitting in the car, did not feel an impact, and had the dashcam running. When I pointed this out she got a bit huffy and drove off. I reported it to my insurance company and sent the footage of her reversing and that alone showed the damage i was alleged to have caused..

Get yourself a good quality dashcam.
