Skoda Yeti Door Lock Failure - Door lock failure - tickettoride1952

Our 2016 Yeti 1.2 Outdoor SE TSI DSG is the first and will be the last Skoda we have owned in our 4 car family. Skoda UK's poor customer support when their cars go wrong leaves me with no confidence in this brand and their dealer network. My issue has been caused by the failure of the offside rear door solenoid locking mechanism which was undetected for nearly 18 months. As the car is parked in London streets and there were incidences of entry, disruption and theft from the interior of the car, this was initially considered a user error in not activating the central locking correctly. As this occurrences continued to happen the idea of breaching the locking system by the intruder was also considered.

When finally the discovery of the intermittent faulty lock on the rear passenger door resulted in a visit to Listers Skoda Banbury, it was decided that a new lock was needed at a cost of £323. As the car was not purchased from them (although they had done the servicing) and out of warranty, I paid for the work expecting a sympathetic approach from Skoda UK Customer services as the car had little use and under 30,000 miles and according to Listers a previously unheard of failure.

How wrong I was !!! Whilst Skoda UK were prepared to respond to my request for review; they have completely refused to offer any contribution towards a goodwill payment. Skoda Customer Services have rung me three times and we have gone over the full details for them to decline any support. The last call was 50 minutes !!! What a waste of time .....

First point,

It is a 5 year old car, I could see Skoda and others being sympathetic maybe for a bit past the warranty. if the car had a full Skoda service history, but how long would you like your piece of string to be.

You could have extended the warranty too!

£323 inc labour parts and vat. Not outrageous.!

That's life. Next time do what I have done , buy a new kia, get 7 years warranty, buy a 5 year service pack at 6 years the 6th service wil be £99..

And if the sum total of extraordinary repairs excluding servicing and wear and tear items is only £323, I don't think that is bad at all.

That's pretty impressive ORB.
Let's see if we will be seeing more Korean cars on our roads if the European cars are hit with extra duty if or when the trade talks finally end.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I understood VAG outsourced their customer service to ? The AA so you are not actually speaking to anyone from the supplier, but a contractor with a script .

Undetected for 18 months suggests it was under warranty and they didn’t bother to look at the problem. Shoddy practice.

Skoda are generally regarded as the best manufacturer for customer satisfaction amongst a very bad bunch in the VAG stable. Vote with your feet.

Korean cars such as Hyundai i30 and Kia Ceed are, I believe, built in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, not Korea.

If you are unaware of a problem particularly not related to primary mechanicals then you can hardly expect a dealer to go looking for trouble. If the OP did nit known his rear door was not looking it would be sheer chance that this would be checked.

We are all aware that if you take a car to a main dealer you pay their rates. In this case a wise move would have been to employ the services of an auto electrician or even a local independent. For some DIY and second hand part on Ebay which is the way I go.

Sammy (and Bolt) - I've suggested it before, but I would find it more helpful if,when replying to a post, you use the method provided (or some other) to indicate that you are quoting someone else. When the number of replies gets into dozens it can be rather confusing when unattributed echoes pop up ?

VAG door solenoids always seem to be failing. You can get them for about £30 if you just want a cheap one. From a base Skoda to an Audi A8 they all seem to use the same dodgy part and have done for years.

Clearly not VAG's specialism. I had two Audis with the air-pump central locking, both sprang a leak causing the pump to run continuously and burn out.
