On the M20, inside lane, safe distance but only two lanes. Car in front suddenly lurches to the outside lane revealing a stationary car in my lane. A safe distance between me and the moving car is now as nothing bearing down on the stopped car. I had an Audi in the process of overtaking me, Just managed to avoid the stationary car and accelerated to avoid the Audi too. No hard shoulder for the stationary car to take refuge in. I guess the guy behind had to do the same as me and that no one else hit that car. When swmbo recovered her power of speech she was full of praise for me avoiding the collision which is about the first time in 44 years a positive comment has come my way.

Well done that man!

A classic example of having sufficient power on hand to enable one to accelerate out of trouble. Well done that man!

Two lanes and no hard shoulder ?

Is this a section of the M20 with roadworks in progress?

To be honest it happened so fast on an unfamiliar stretch of road I took in the stopped car and the Audi
And symbols reckons it was more dual carriageway than three lanes, We think it was still the m20 but as I say I can’t be definite. Just shows that keeping a good distance gave me just enough time, needless to say I’m going to leave even bigger gaps now.

The M20 ends just after the Chunnel terminal and becomes the A20 between there and Dover. It's a seamless junction with no roundabout M20/A20 and few real clues you've left the motorway until the roundabout at the western end of Dover.

It's a stretch I don't like and we often use the A2/M2 to access Dover ferryport.

Could be similar at the London end. Never used that section as we'd go either via Dartford to M25 anti clockwise to M1 or via the M26 and west side to M40. Pretty much same distances if your heading towards Northampton.

Could be similar at the London end.

M20 turns into A20 from M25 turnoff, dual carriageway from Mcdonalds to Westhorne Ave or just past it

Hard shoulder ends on A20 on Crittals corner flyover (though beware the dip where the flyover joins motorway it can make a nasty thump in the car if not prepared on some cars)
