Ford galaxy V6 mk1 - Heater matrix flow direction - dipsomaniac

Bypassed the matrix 10 years ago after a leak. Just got the time/weather/bottle to replace it (£9.09 Eurocarparts) but now can't rememberr which way the hoses go back. The one hose connecting to the matrix has a temp sensor. Is that the inlet? If so do I connect the hose coming from the top of the head and throttle body to the inlet

Does anyone have a image of the hose configuration? Ideally on a 1998 V6 auto Sharan or galaxy with climate control

Sorry i can't help you, but posted to offer my admiration for tackling this job in an era people flinch at swapping a wheel over, and well done for managing without a heater for so long, i had an ex WD Series Landrover full canvas top with no heater at all and no piping for one in one of the coldest winters of my adult life, no not as bad as '63.

Son and i changed the heater matrix on his Seat Toledo (51 plate Diesel), a nightmare of a job, heater rad must have been the first thing they fitted to the bare shell, never again.

Don’t think I’ve seen one of these for at least 15 years . It doesn’t really matter which way you connect the hoses . You may find one way gives a better heat output than the other . Both the input and output pipes are at the top , so easy to swap over .

Most cars seem to have the flow going into the bottom connection and the return from the top, so that air doesn't get trapped in the matrix. The flow side will probably come from the water pump - although not always.

If you can pull the hoses off fairly easily, do it with the engine running at 1000 + rpm and the one the water comes out of is the flow.

Yes, and if you do this before the engine gets warm, attach the flow in pipe and don't connect the outlet until the air is purged, some cars are a pita for air trapped in the cooling system others expel it in seconds.

Thanks for the replies. removing the dash was the worst job i have attempted on the car, hidden fittings and brittle plastic was just a couple of the problems i encountered. the only saviour was that i didn't have to remove the heater box as there was just enough clearance when the box was pulled back and some of the sound deadened cut to lift the matrix out.
