Vauxhall Combo 1.3 CDTI (06) - Difficult starting when up to temperature/rattling - Kieron.S

Hi guys,

Looking for a bit of advice before taking my van into the garage this week.

Over the last few weeks my van has been really struggling to start when warm but starts perfectly when stone cold? This has been getting progressively worse.

Also after 5/10 minutes of driving as she warms up the service light comes on.

As if not bad enough already it also has a nasty rattling noise coming from the left hand side of the engine (the belt/alternator area.

Anyone have any experience with this or recommendations?

Cheers Kieron.

Bad rattle from belt area is likely to be a worn timing chain . This could certainly affect starting. I suggest you don’t drive it . If the chain snaps , it’s goodbye (Fiat) engine.

I've seen this issue on a few diesel Peugeot's over the years. A faulty fuel temperature sensor was to blame. It didn't put the EML on either, but a code was logged.

So a diagnostic might be a good place to start, see what the car thinks the fuel temperature is.
