I've always loved Interceptors, and still do. Never owned one, but rented one for a weekend a few years back, which was a brilliant experience.

Back in 2007 I spent a very happy hour at Cropredy Bridge Garage, the Jensen specialist, looking at the cars they had for sale and the 'Interceptor graveyard' out the back. I still have the printed price list from that visit. A decent running car with 12 months MOT and some history was £8,995, and a '72 SP (the hottest model with 350+BHP) with a fully-documented restoration was £20,000. Even with inflation, that's about £25,000 today.

They currently have a similar, fully-restored '72 SP on sale at £85,000. They've more than trebled in value in just a dozen years.

If only I'd taken the plunge back then and bought one. Ah well. There's always tomorrow's Euromillions draw.

Sale price is not necessarily what it is worth. Maybe a hopeful seller waiting for the next nostalgic punter to turn up. Just seen a nice one at dealer near Cambridge for £50k. I know of the dealer and has a good reputation.

Looks like he's had it a while, with current situation he might be willing to take an offer

It s easy to think you buy what you think is a future classic, lock it away for 20 years, hopefully watch the prices rise then sell it.

Unless you pick really well and do find that car which is so rare people will happily pay stupid money for a shed, any car needs to be driven and maintained and that costs money, serious money on cars you want to hold value.

Ask anyone selling these classics if the anticipated sale price covers their total cost of ownership. In my mind 'Fully restoring' a car would include full strip down to chassis, complete engine, gearbox, differential rebuild, new brakes, rewire, respray, reupholstery etc etc. That's a large chunk of the £80k hopeful sale price.

Does look nice, and has had some useful upgrades.

Back in 2007, Cropredy had similar cars for £15K ...

I remember this car very well. My rich uncle Maurice had one. He lived in London and was a big wheel in the insurance industry. Quite a car. His was a 'J' registration and a dark metallic grey if memory serves. I can't vouch for the reliability but he did sell it and bought a large Mercedes. He stuck with Mercs for quite a while after that. He did say that driving in London had become a real chore by the late 70's and an automatic Merc made it bearable. Happy days indeed when visits were made.

Cheers Concrete

My uncle had an FF (from new). Kept breaking down on the journey between Glasgow & London though ...

He also blew the engine in a Jaguar XJ 5.3 on the motorway ... :P

I wish I had a warehouse full of cars I was offering a few hundred quid for back in the 90’s. XR2’s, Nova GTE’s, 205 GTi’s etc are all £10k plus for good examples today.
