Hi all, first new post.

I enjoy browsing Car & Classic adverts for many reasons, nostalgia, dreams etc. But get a bit fed up when auction houses like Matthewsons, ACA and Silvertstone's can monopolise the site. This must put some private advertiser off. Why can't they just post a general advert for their auction? . After all it includes a link to their page.

I agree regarding private sales on other sites where I’m always having dealer cars flagging up while searching for private bargains but when it comes to much rarer classic cars I guess it’s more about the vehicle than the price and buyers are less likely to be on a tight budget. Even the private sales on this site are typically very expensive as sellers know the rarity of what they have. The potential bargains lurk where sellers think they’ve nothing more than another old car to flog.

Hi Andy, i also enjoy that particular website.

I have to say it isn't something i have really noticed. But that said, as i tend to be looking at more obscure, lower value stuff, that may well be why!.

Probably a different kettle of fish if looking at classic Aston's Jag's, Ferrari's etc!

Just look at general stuff, especially variants of what I've owned in the past. Generally ignore the posh stuff especially Porsches, unless unusual.

Hi SL, always like your posts and wisdom.

Agree with you about the posted prices, especially those 'original' restored Fords and Mini's.

Surely if a car's been restored it's not original ?

I have bought and sold there once or twice - a nice feature is the absence of fees. I don't know if the recent revamp is significant, but it seems to have no hidden extras. I wouldn't say I've noticed that it is 'monopolised' by big sellers. The tatty cars are usually to be found on E-bay or Gumtree.

Why?.

Surely it only becomes 'non original' if most, or at least many, parts are replaced?. Maybe it wasn't always the case, but these days the overriding objective in the restoration of a classic car, is to avoid replacing parts if at all possible. Especially if the car has historical significance.

Look at that site most days. It doesn't bother me who is advertising.

I try not to look. It makes me depressed.

Sort of like pornography, come to think on't.

Does that mean you try, but fail ? Maybe the depression has something to do with the part of the world you occupy ?
