300 miles total so far.

After the MG, reassuringly solid, quieter on the road. Zero problems, as expected.

Touchscreen menus good, easy to set to screen off, does not have the same garishly colured screen as the MG. Their is adigital or analogue clock to choose from.

A lot more comfortable on the 215/70 16 wheels/tyres combination.

In short, Nothing to report.

Found a copy of the Pre delivery inspection sheet at Immingham and EVERYTHING appears to have been checked over, 2 x A4 Pages of items.

Found a copy of the Pre delivery inspection sheet at Immingham and EVERYTHING appears to have been checked over, 2 x A4 Pages of items.

If it's a couple of sheets of boxes to tick - anyone can tick boxes. Of course that doesn't mean it wasn't done .... :-)

Please keep up the progress reports, ORB, as a Sportage is a possible for my next car. Only a possible though. I saw a really nice looking one in Morrisons car park this morning. It was in black, a colour I would never choose, but it was a handsome looking car. Set me thinking again about a Sportage.

Mighty impressed with that tyre size, have all the designers capable of allocating suitable sensible tyre sizes to the vehicle in question moved to the far east?, i think you'll be chuffed at replacement prices too ORB if you keep the car long enough to wear the OE set out.

70 series rubber now usually only found on hard core genuine off roaders, magic carpet ride and they'll laugh at the millions of pot holes as they plough on.

You only get the 215/70/16 on it because it does not have an electronic hand brake.

Only the Sportage 1 has that. every higher spec has bigger wheels,, 17" 18" 19"...

Another one for you to think about, Senexdriver, would be the forthcoming Ford Kuga, which in some versions is going to have 60-profile tyres.

The plug-in version interests me as the petrol engine is going to be a 2.5-litre four as opposed to the 1.5 which is in a lot of the competition....and it seems that you can have the option of a spare wheel as well. The Kuga isn't going to have the gimmicky box-thing in the boot that the Puma has, preventing a spare wheel even being an option.

I’ve got so many possibilities running around in my head, Avant. I’m not even sure yet when I’ll change as my A4 Avant is just so good to drive and I’ve only covered 25000 miles in 3.5 years. Current strong favourite is the V60, followed in no particular order by the XC40, Mazda CX-5, Seat Ateca/Skoda Karoq, Hyundai Tucson and all new Audi A3 sportback. After I’d bought the A4 I was fairly sure that by the time comes to change it, I’ll need an SUV due to mobility issues, but I am still supple enough for easy access and egress from the A4. (Must be the Pilates!)

In each of the possible replacements listed above I can find a reason not to buy it, whereas when I bought the A4 it was absolutely the car I wanted, as was the A3 sportback that preceded it. I’ve read too many horror stories about modern Fords to want to try any of their offerings. It’s a shame because I had a succession of 60s and 70s Fords years ago and they were all very good cars. I maintained them myself in those days and I felt I knew them intimately and could trust them. Nowadays it’s all a bit of an act of faith with repairs beyond the capabilities of the self-trained mechanic. Nevertheless, I shall be interested to see how you find the Kuga if you get to try it.

I'll certainly let you know - the Kuga is coming sometime this summer I believe, and it seems that the plug-in is being introduced at the same time as the rest of the range, unlike the half-hearted 'later' that some other makers talk about.

I used to think that extra height (as in an SUV) was the answer for ageing joints. But SWMBO who has arthritic knees can get in and out of her A3 convertible just as well as she can with the Q2. It seems to be also to do with the relationship between seat and door sill, the latter needing to be not too high and not too far away from the seat. And she found the substantial side bolsters difficult on the front seats of the three Octavia vRS estates that I had, or I'd probably have had a fourth.

But like you I'm very fond of my Audi: as with all Audis I've driven, there's a feeling of well-being and of not wishing one was in anything else. Not intending to change for at least another year, but it's always fun to look around and see what the possiblities are.

Sorry -thread drift. No harm in that but I do hope, ORB, that your Sportage continues to satisfy.

If only I could use it...Edinburgh trip cancelled next week... YRG was on leave next week, but going in monday at least, even though leave not cancelled. Don't know when sister in law can return to Baghdad but happily we all get on, and the dog, Blodwen, needs her walks.

Went to Heathrow from Colchester monday, and return. Zeroed fuel consumption at start, showed about 44. a bit average 190 miles round trip in good driving conditions not pushing it too much. so -10% and 40 ish mpg acceptable.

will verify brim to brim when able to get out again.

Happy to say sis in law made it back on last extra flight, last ticket...
