Any - PAS fluid - change? - Andrew-T

I can't find any suggestion that routine maintenance should include changing PAS fluid. My Pug 306 is now 25 years old, and I'm sure auto-transmission fluid (the same stuff) would have been replaced during that time. I doubt that will have happened to this car, though it has been properly serviced. Of course PAS fluid doesn't get hot during use, so any suggestions ? .

Its not something I've done myself, but I'm sure I read that when the driveshafts need their inevitable replacement, all the fluid drains out and its replaced then?

I use a clean turkey baster (bought for such purposes) and remove as much oil from the reservoir as possible, refill then repeat this every few days until the oil removed is showing clean.

I did both cars a few weeks ago oddly enough.

Oh yes it does. It's doing 'work' and being pumped, so heat will be generated in it. I've seen PAS fluid oil coolers on some cars, Often no more than a metal pipe down by the radiator.

I can't understand why it would drain out when removing a drive shaft?

As regulars might guess, I've never bothered. Never had any trouble. Can't remember ever seeing a change advised in any handbook I've had.

I believe Gibbo thought I meant that my car had auto transmission - it doesn't (God forbid). I couldn't understand it either .... :-)

Sorry, I was thinking of something else and got the two mixed up.
