Audi A2 - Replacement Windscreen - Steveieb
Need a new windscreen after stone damage but don't want to repeat my last experience with a major supplier.
I specifically requested an OE screen but they sent a Chinese copy.
Also having it fitted at their depot seems to not be an option any more , so it's on the drive if you have no garage. Also concerned that the sealant won't set in cold or damp temperatures.
Grateful your advice

Just had a quick look online and found this on t'internet.

I wouldn't worry too much about it myself, i'm sure if it wasn't possible to fit windscreens outside in cold/damp weather, they wouldn't do so

As to the windscreen itself, as the A2 wasn't a big seller and went out of production 15 years ago, can you actually get anything other than a 'pattern' windscreen?. I think i'd be happy to get one full stop (to keep the car on the road) rather than worry about where it came from.

Very cool car BTW!

I don't use the large suppliers at all, and i don't normally claim on the insurance either.

If you look and ask around there will be a small independent screen chap in your area, he'll work at bodyshops, used car lots, and often fits commercial vehicle screens too, its one of these chaps i use, you might be pleasantly surprised just how cheap a screen can be when not supplied by one of the heavy advertisers.

Never had a leaker yet.

Last time i had a rear screen fitted in the Merc, i managed to bag one of the last of the batch of pattern parts available, none then until another batch is made, OE out of the question would have been well into 4 figures as the rear screen is laminated with barely visible ultra fine heater wires, OE last no better than copy on these, they all delaminate from the edges.
