You may have gathered from my other posts here that I am looking for a new motor.

I looked at my company's staff website and saw that a certain manufacture is doing a deal for our staff because the manufacturer is one of our customers.

The deal is a percentage off at the dealer, plus a fixed cash contribution from the manufacturer.

Great deal?

Nope - its still over £2,000 cheaper going to a broker!

No wonder people don't trust car companies and their dealers!

Several local dealers do an NHS discount.

Brokers all cheaper for all of them.

Use brokers and online leasing firms to get prices then call dealers to see if they’ll match, youll usually find one that will and it gives you a point of contact if any issues pop up during the deal or after. I did this with a Honda CRV and a dealer in Glasgow matched my online quote despite apparently making nothing on it because it counted towards his quarterly target and bonus.

Went to the dealer offering the staff discount yesterday. Told the dealer and was quoted without the benefit of the discount - despite providing evidence of qualification!

They didn't want to do the deal offered by their manufacturer, let alone come close to a broker price.

The best they could quote me was £498 per month with £1500 down on a £39k car for contract hire (a lease).

I could lease the same thing over the same term and mileage for £370 including VAT and £1300 down. They quoted the £498 after seeing the lease cost and still claimed theirs was the better deal because it was through them!

Now I don't mind paying a few £££ over the odds for a local dealer but not nearly £130 a month extra!
