I can' say any reason why it has gone up that is specificcally to do with AutoAid (having never used them myself), leaving that explanation to other Backroomers, but what I would say is that the age of your car can also make a big difference - when my Mazda3 reached 10 years of age, the quoted premium jumped by approximately 25% (I'm with the RAC), and similar amounts from direct mainstream competitors.
I suspect because the car is older, they think it's more likely to go wrong. Even after getting cheaper quotes from other firms and going back to the RAC (as I do every year to bat them down on price), they wouldn't reduce the end premium down to my normal one, essentially adding about the same percentage onto the final price I paid.
The price I currently pay with the RAC is not that much different from the AutoAid quote (my car now coming up to 14 years old).
