The gentle curve of the boot lid on my Audi A3 saloon is too much to allow adhesive pads to work.Does anyone know if there are any wires or other reason why I cannot use approved coloured plastic screws by drilling two holes in the outer skin?

Not a good idea to drill the boot lid . Lots of electrics in here. How is the existing plate fitted?

It's held on by sticky pads supplied by the dealer but only the centre pads are now holding as the pads cannot keep the plate in the slightly curved position. I have managed to get another strip each side but that too, has failed.

I would take it to the dealer but that is a 200 mile round trip. I

My Mondeo front number plate is held on with screws.

However, the ends tend to stick out and it looks a bit silly so I've put a sticky pad under each end to make the plate follow the contour of the bumper. It's been like that for several years, now, and I've never had any problems with it coming unstuck.

I think there are sticky pads and sticky pads! I would suggest that you try a different type.

My neighbour has an A3 saloon . The plate is screwed to the 2 factory mounting fix points . Remove the plate completely and check.

I wasn't sure whether there were any pre-drilled holes but I will now remove the plate and hope. Thanks for the advice.

I had a similar thing with my Lexus Ct200h.

The old number plate was held on with pads and I had a private plate. I went through all kinds of scenarios and was going to settle on extremely sticky velcro for the new plates.

On taking the old plates off - viola - there were factory holes already installed behind the plate, so I just bought some plastic number plate bolts and screwed the new plate on. Job done!

Get some heavy-duty double-sided from B&Q or suchlike - it will stick like the proverbial. Comes in three or four grades of stickiness.

Thanks! Any idea what the rough dimensions of the plate are? My front bumper isn’t straight so I want to make sure the plate will be flush against it. https://cartbig.com/top-7-best-fan-for-grow-tent/
