Ticket from Florence in 2014 - Happy Blue!

I was in Florence in the summer of 2014 (I think). We had a rented car and parked it in the hotel car park but otherwise did not use in in Florence.

I have today received a 'Fianl Reminder' from some debt collection agency in Kent claiming to collect a ticket from the Florence Police on behalf of Hertz. Despite this being a 'final reminder', this is the first i have heard of it.

Online information about the agency indicates they are a genuine firm but I have no recollection of any infringement or any previous correspondence from them.

Do I simply ask them for proof of their previous correspondence. The original ticket value was about £100 which has now risen to over £250 due to interest and charges.

"According to the Italian Traffic Code, the police have only 360 days after receiving identification of the driver of the vehicle (that is, the date that Hertz handed over your UK address) within which to notify foreign drivers of the fine. This information is provided on the website of European Municipality Outsourcing (EMO), an independent agency linked to Florence-based debt collection agency Nivi Credit, which many Italian police forces have tasked with collecting the fines"

So it is probable that they are flying a kite in this instance.

Thank you!

Good heavens!! I know Italy is broke, but really this is beyond the pail. I think I would be inclined to ignore this. The chances of being taken court are minuscule, even then the chances of a successful prosecution are even smaller. Without a court judgement there is no debt, so how can any be collected? Good luck Blue. Cheers Concrete

Regretfully they have provided full information to me and it seems I did ignore a May 2015 notice received by post so well within the 12 months limitation period.

The matter is now with a UK company for collection and the only way out is that I seem to recall making a payment in 2015. So I am checking if it is the same matter....

I believe there is a 5 year limitation period after the fine has been notified to you. This may already have expired.
