Your custom is obviously important to them!

As has been said before, mistakes happen, but it's how they are dealt with that's important.

Took my van for service and MOT this morning only to find it should have been yesterday.

Its your responsibility to take the van in. If they are busy surely they are concentrating on the owners who actually turn up.

Same applies to my dentist, I missed an appointment simply because I put it into the moby calendar on the wrong day. Did they ring me, of course not, I found out like you when I went at the wrong time.

My dentist sends text message reminders days before and the day immediately before. My GP sends texts confirming appointments and also sends reminders asking me to let them know if I can't keep it.

Told in advance you can't keep the appointment they do ring people on the 'emergency waiting list' to fill the vacant time, good efficiency, should be the normal routine.

Couldn't agree more galileo, I think it's time garages embraced 21st century technology.

You'll have to do the same so you don't forget again! :-)

Happens every day at garages, folk forget to turn up. They rarely phone to chase you up, it’s not their fault really and they’ll book jobs in expecting some not to show so they’ll usually have plenty to do. Only time they will call is if they’re quiet.

I run my life from my mobile's calendar.

Very simple.. look at it every night for next day..

Check when entering an appointment .. and check again...

If I in my 70s can do it...................

I'm not sure why anyone would expect their garage to remember their MOT test expiry date.

One can register their number plate on the gov.uk website and receive reminders via SMS. One 30 days before expiry and one a week before.

Haven't noticed anyone here ask.

Having re-read the first post, I misunderstood. I thought you were implying they forgot to call you for your annual MOT and service. As the youth would say...My Bad!

That train of thought works both ways. Presumably you have a amartphone?, if so it will have a diary/organiser in which you can set reminders for stuff like this. Even something much more low-tech like writing it in to a calendar is surely better than expecting someone else to remind you to do something you have arranged to do?.

He didn't really even apologise

And this is a bit rich!, why exactly should the garage apologise to you for your not turning up when you were supposed to?. You are the one who should be apologising.

Dentists, doctors etc send reminders because folk not turning up for appointments is a major problem, so not very comparable at all.
