Nissan/Hyundai - Which to choose.... - TJH

Apologies for what might seem like a simpleton question but I’ve seen two cars that I’m interested in and wouldn’t mind some impartial advice as to which might be the better buy?

Hyundai ix20 (2013/13) | £5329 | 36,071 | Insurance: 8E | Safety – 89% adult & 85% child

Nissan Note (2013/13) | £4625 | 43,814 | Insurance: 11E | Safety – 86% adult & 82% child

Ability to handle well in snow is a consideration too…

Any thoughts would be very welcome!

Thanks.

All things condition and service/ownership history wise being equal , my gut feeling is the Hyundai, mainly because the maker had enough faith in their product to give it 5 years unlimited mileage warranty when it was new, i have no idea if either are particularly bargains, if its auto you are after then certainly the Hyundai.

Also try to work out where each was used in its life, a London car will have spent its life in heavy traffic, a Scottish car will have seen twice as much road salt, so stick your head underneath and have a good poke nose about both.

Handling snow competently will depend almost entirely on you as a driver and your choice of tyre, but will also be influenced by the size of wheels and tyres fitted, smaller wheels with slightly narrower tyres are better on snow than wide elastic bands, hopefully neither of these have Carlos Fandango's fitted.

As with any 6yr old used car condition and history is vital but if all things were equal I’d favour the better built Hyundai.

Hyundai.

Serious problems with mine within warranty with no fault codes registered so dealer couldn't fix it until I videoed the problem. (It lost power / refused to accelerate, even going down hill.)

(2017 50k miles)

Once diagnosed the fix was prompt and courteous with no investigation fees up front.

Nissan.

We have a 2016 Note with 12k miles. Trim has fallen the A pillar. Dealer has been unable to fix from c6 months old. Nissan refuse to supply a replacement part - a small clip the size of a matchbox.

On balance I would go with the Hyundai.

When looking again, bear in mind that the hyndai has a mechanically identical, near twin, the Kia Venga.
