2003 NISSAN MICRA III K12 - Sensor to measure coolant temperature - MrD2018

I would like to install a small digital temperature sensor in the car engine compartment to get an approximate value of the coolant temperature. Other than actually placing the sensor in the coolant itself, what external part of the engine would give the nearest reading to the coolant temperature?

If you have a smart phone ,you can buy one of those Bluetooth Obd reader that will plug into your diagnostic socket. This will give engine data ,including coolant temp. The digital temp gauges all seem to have a sensor that needs to be screwed into the engine ,which is not really practical on this car. The best solution would probably be to attach the sensor bulb as near as possible to the top hose and secure it with cable ties.

There is a type of temperature sensor that can be mounted under a bolt head, say on the thermostat housing, it looks like a big crimp terminal.
