Following from the recent post regarding bumper stickers, I have seen a few interesting roadside signs. Mostly home made to get a simple message across.

A local farmer put a large sign on the roadside near the entrance to the farmyard, it read:

POTATO'S. Some wag wrote underneath: TWINNED WITH POMME DE TERRE!

Another was the road sign as you enter Knotty Ash in Liverpool, someone wrote on the sign:

A TAX FREE ZONE! (Ref dear old Doddy)

At least they bring a smile when travelling along.

These were proper eastern Australia council roadside signs we saw while there....... .”Don’t be a t*****, take your litter home”...certainly made us laugh.

I like the one on the A1 going south just after Sandy, 'Huge Tackle Shop'.

few years ago spotted a removals type lorry parked in a layby presumably chaps at the burger van there, in huge signwriting on the side of the lorry, ''Humpers, We Hump Anything Anytime''.

Not a road sign but translation:

Currently on holiday in France. Looking for lunch in Saumur yesterday we found an offer of 'cheek of pig farmer'. On a campsite in Alsace a few years ago the T&C's included a section relating to 'Death Garage' - Garage Mort appears to be a French term for caravan storage.........

I like "Heavy Plant Crossing".

It makes me think of a large rhododendron or maybe even a triffid.

In the early days of the "National Forest", back in the 1990s, there was a fairly minor junction on the A453 near Ashby-de-la-Zouch which had a really excessive number of road signs.

In addition to all the real signs, there was a homemade addition, which read "Welcome to the national forest of signs"

I can't remember now whether someone had vandalised a "Welcome to the National Forest" sign, or whether someone had added a whole extra sign, and I suspect it was only there for a few weeks before highways got rid of it. That junction is still referred to as "National Forest of Signs Junction" in our family...

I saw one last week near Leeds that often features in lists like this. I'd always suspected it was made up. But there it was in red and white ...."Cats eyes removed"

I like "Heavy Plant Crossing".

On similar lines, the old one 'Humped Zebra Crossing', which might be the same as 'Striped Camel Crossing' ?
