Passat b7 2.0tdi - Fuel filter replacement - 3uga

Hi,

Just did a fuel filter replacement a 2.0tdi. After searching some posts on the matter, i've heard that incorect air bleed of the fuel line could damage/ crack the hpfp.

Most people say to unscrew the 5 bolts, remove old filter, clean housing and ad new filter after the housing is filled with clean diesel and avoid puting diesel through the center hole of the filter. So you basicly fill the filter to bleed the sistem

I wanted to avoid the risk of sending unfiltered fuel through the pump and make it easy for me since I had no fuel to fill the filter housing. I removed old filter, drained and cleaned the housing, added new filter without filling the housing. After that i removed the hose from hpfp return line and activated the electric pump in the tank using vcds. After the fuel filter was filled i reinstaled return line and activated tank pump for 2 times 30second each.

Is this an ok procedure ?

I have never heard of a complicated way to change the filter on these. Undo screws , remove old filter, clean reservoir bowl, fit new filter and seal , refit top and prime fuel system with ignition on/off. It really is that easy . Cracked Hpfp ? Don’t think so , never seen it . More importantly you should check to make sure the seal is not leaking .

The fuel filter case doesent have a bleed screw. I think it would be time consuming to put ignition on/ off since the filter in not conected to tank retun line
