Can anyone describe the instalation of the timing tensioner on the 2.2 crdi dheb?

I want to do a timing belt replacement but the form and the workig of the tensioner seems weird to me. To be honest i didnt have the chance to personaly look at the tensioner and i think more will make sense after i do. Ive been trying to figure out if it needs to be pretensioned like the tensioners you come across in VAG engines where you have use the tensionig tool and as you reach the mark, you tighten the tensioner puley.

Any advice would be helpful.
