Looking at car next week, any advise on above make and model things to look out for when buying secondhand. Checking mot back checks, it the cleanest car I've seen. Auto model so high in tax is acceptable for my disability, 158k p.s.h need to do cambelt. 3 keepers . asking £900 what should I offer? Private sale

It's highly unlikely you will find anyone on this site recommending a Vectra, especially a 13 year old diesel auto. Japanese petrol will be the recommendation.

What's your budget and requirements?

Yes, don’t.

I wouldn’t recommend a cheap diesel to anyone never mind one using a Fiat motor. Anything goes wrong with it and it’s a write-off. Stick with petrol at this money, it’s far less complex, less likely to go wrong and much cheaper to fix if it does.

What is your maximum budget and roughly where do you live? I’m assuming you need 5 doors and a bit of space and an automatic gearbox is a must also? I’ll take a look at what’s available near you. Just hold fire on that Vectra, it’ll be a total liability and nothing better than throwing £900 in the bin.

A £1000 will buy you a very useable mik 3 mondeo 2.0 auto petrol of a similar age . A good workhorse.

As above...don't do it.!..waste of your money and you can do better with a Japanese make/model with a PETROL engine.

Im assuming the OP didn’t like our advice but for the benefit of others here’s a couple of examples of cheap family autos that would be worthy of viewing. The Avensis is a private sale and a cheeky offer might just grab it.
