Same thing recently happened to my daughter , I paid for insurance to put her on my motorcycle policy and that was recorded in the documents , however she had an accident when a van knocked her off the road in Sussex and the police said she was not on the database although I and the motorcycle was,, the van driver was charged with drink driving .

she ended up getting 6 points a 3 month ban and £300 fines and lost her job and place at Uni due to this muddle which was not her fault .. The magistrates did criticise the police for actually bringing the case to court and they were told to pay the fees for court and our solicitor but due to DVLA rules once in court their hands were tied as to penalty . Very harsh and definitely not her fault
