Honda Accord MK 6 - Fast Idle Test : Fail : CO - AdrianMetso

Took my mk6 Honda for MOT this week, overall it passed, but examiner said that he doubt it will pass next year on account of failing the Fast Idle Test.

Co was measured as 0.41 % vol , (Limits max are 0.2)

Second Fast idle test

CO came in at 0.01 % vol

Was advised it could be the lambda sensor or cat that needs changing.

Lambda came in at 1.026 (Limits: min 0.970 , Max: 1.030)

Any advise on this would be appreciated.

Thanks Metso

If it passed the second fast idle test , (figures look good), I can’t see there being a problem . Did the garage report any other failures that may happen next year?

nope, didnt report anything otherwise...

One thing I learnt is to warm up the catalytic convertor, by driving car for a little bit.

On this occasion I thought letting the engine get up to temperature was enough. I only drove it for 10 minutes down to the mot centre.

Thanks for your reply...

Second the "warm it up first", take it out for an hours worth of "Italian tune". Failure to hit Lambda (apart from the sensor failing) could also be a symptom of a blowing silencer or other part of the exhaust that may not have been detected by your MOT station. This happened last year with Mrs Surreydrivers Jazz.
