Dacia Sandero Stepway - Have I been sold old stock as new car ? - Bob McGarry

I picked up what I believed to be a new 2019 Dacia Sandero Stepway essential tce90 from a dealership this morning. When I got home and had a look through the handbook there was a sticker at the back which says " model year:16. "

looking at the 2017 Stepway ambiance trim the interior pics look the same as the 2019 essential trim which I beleived I was buying. Is it possible the dealership sold me a 2017 "ambiance" model which was unsold stock in place of the 2019 " essential" model which I believed I was buying ?

Type your registration number in the following link and see if it comes up as being an 'Ambiance' or 'Essential' trim level.

Check the date stamp on bits of plastic trim and manufacture date on the tyres.

It is certainly possible that you have been sold new 'old' stock. But as to the difference between the Essential and ambiance trim, i'm not sure there is any. Firstly, comparing the two models on this website, there seems to be no difference in spec (that is for the 0.9 versions). As for price, the 0.9 versions cost exactly the same, the 1.0 versions have the Ambiance at £5 dearer, and with the 1.5 diesel, the Essential is £60 dearer. Looking at pics on Autotrader, there appears to be no difference with the interior trim.

But, given the warranty (presumably) is from the time of purchase, and that it is very much, a budget car, does it really matter?.

The handbook is not part of the vehicle, so it's possible that previous edition books are being issued with latest models - or being swopped around by dealers. Worth checking though.

Quite possible - referring to your other thread once you find the VIN number (there may also be a sticker on the B pillar with the VIN and weight info) - you will be able to check date of manufacture.

As suggested by others check the date stamp on the tyres - I would expect them to end in an 18 and possibly even possibly a 19 if the car is brand new.

Check the label on the very bottom of the seatbelt at the B pillar..that always used to give month and year of manufacture...I assume it still does.

Thanks very much for the helpful replies guys, much appreciated.

Checked the tyres and they are all week 35 ( 27/08-02/09) 2018 and the dates on the seatbelt labels are all dated late September 2018, so looks like it was in production around October 2018 .
