Volvo V60 - Rear Suspension. Tyre Wear - ellastonepaul

The "Health Check" at the 3 year annual Dealer service (23000 miles) Volvo V60 produced a report on the rear near-side tyre (1.8, 3.4, 3.4) , off-side (4.2, 4.1, 4.2). The "Check NSR Suspension" was ticked as "OK"!

Whilst it was in the service department I received a phone call advising me that the tyre was worn and should be replaced. I was then subject to a fairly aggressive sales pitch for £250 of Michelins. No reference was made to the suspension.

Surely this indicates a misaligned/worn suspension? As far as I am aware there have been no incidents to cause damage (pot-holes, off-road etc). Have there been any reports of premature wear (eg bushes?). I believe similar suspension is used in other vehicles eg S60?

The Visual Health Check (VHC) that your car received was just that - a visual look-over. A technician will typically be allowed 6-12 minutes to complete it, which includes inputting findings into a tablet/PC and, more often than not, making a video. So time to point out items like tyres, pads/discs, bushes, springs and dampers, but nowhere near long enough to do an alignment check. So the suspension OK is simply to say that all major components are present and correct.
I’d have expected a commercially aware technician and service advisor to have recommended an alignment check, based upon the wear pattern.

Surely this indicates a misaligned/worn suspension?

It does indeed but at 3 years old it will not be warranty work unless something is broken. In those 3 years you have had plenty of opportunity to damage it yourself. No manufacturer covers wheel alignment for this reason.

Its yours to sort.
