Re: bicycles made for 2. Another option would be a Skoda Superb estate with the internal bike racks. You'd still have to fold the seats, but no faffing around our carefully arranging stuff and you don't have to drive a van.

Most BMWs especially those with a sports auto box fitted since 2012 have a push button 'Park' function. Holds the car in 'park' and no brake light to dazzle the driver behind. To drive off, quick dab on the brake and pull the selector back to Drive and off you go.

Off with his head?

My 240 GLT used to need 4star petrol, RON98, until I put the Broquet Catalyst in the tank in December 1995 at 109,160 miles.

Unleaded petrol since then, and another 101,000 miles without problems. No difference in the driving experience.

Except even Honest Johns own forum members opinion is that it is snake oil.

The old Volvo 240 forums pretty much agree that it ran on unleaded without any issues, so you got conned.

and I quote

"Volvo issued a leaflet at the time unleaded started to appear at the pumps (early 1990s) which listed all models 200/300 onwards as to whether they can use unleaded or not.
All 200s can run on unleaded, though some need 'tweaking'."

Except, Cap'n, mine was made in 1983.

Snake oil?

"This is caused by the driver switching off the engine while the DPF is actively regenerating. "

No, this is caused by poor car design - forced by eco-loonary.
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 16-02-2019 Part 1 - kiwichas

Caused by poor design, repeated running cold for short distances with diesel condensing on cold cylinder walls getting blasted past the rings into the sump + these engines run their DPF cycle about every 200 km for 15 kms. A tiny amount might be due to turning the engine off while the DPF cycle is running, but this would be insignificant compared to the above factors.

All diesels suffer sump oil dilution depending on use/design

Frequent oil changes will be necessary to avoid wear due to running with sump oil diluted with up to 10-20% diesel.

I have had one for 5 years and it is otherwise excellent, so oil is changed twice yearly(about every 6000km)

Poor design, yes, but also people not buying and using such cars as they were designed to. Both at fault, other than those people who bought early DPF-equipped cars over a decade ago. No excuse since then (on both sides) for people not knowing.

Re: bikes
I once had four adult bikes and a piggy-back thing in the back of my Fiat Multipla and it was still a three-seater. Look, I know the arithmetic doesn't work but the rest of the family came in another car.
A Multipla with the back seats removed will also take a pallet. Or a washing machine. Oh, why did Fiat discontinue them? I'm on my fourth and she's getting tired, I want a new one!
Will anyone who has a low mileage, diesel Multipla they don't want please email me: Rushlight27@gmail.com. Thank you.
