Polo 1.4 tdi 2007 - vw polo diagnostic - mannyman

Hi I have been tying to find a diagnostic tool to buy for the vw polo 1.4tdi 2007. I find it impossible to find the right one as most of them are either only supported for petrol cars or just doesn't support the year of my model.

Can someone find me a good cheap diagnostic tool that can do following:

- Read all fault codes (including ABS, Engine)

- Is compatible with my model

- Under £40

- Sold in UK

Thank you

40 quid isn't much of a budget,

and you want abs too!

Cheap code readers typically only read basic engine fault code.

near as I can find would be the "Autel MD 802

they come in around £169 or so and cover most of what you'd ask

A 40 pound code reader might prop a door open but still wouldn't trust it to do that.

Good and cheap does not exist . If you want a piece of kit that will definitely do the job, then there is really only one option . Most definitely not cheap , but guaranteed to give you correct and accurate info: www.ilexa.co.uk/diagnostic-tools/vag-com-vcds.html

Over £200? That is way too much I cannot afford that! I saw one of those VAG diagnostic software for free if you buy the cable with it on ebay and they are going for under £10. I contacted different sellers but all have said it is incompatible with my model otherwise I would have got those.

My first car which was a vauxhall corsa diesel. I managed to get my hands on a 15 quid OBD2 scanner and was able to pick out fault code with abs light which happened to be a EGR valve problem and it was replaced and light never came back after. So cheap does not necassarily mean bad and I am aware it wont have as many features but I only want one as I do not wish to pay 50 pounds for a diagnostic everytime a problem arises. I think it would be cheaper to just buy my own. The code reader doesnt have to cover every single thing, anything that could read my current abs light would be good. I am willing to pay maximum £60 if that is enough to get a decent reader that can pick up my current abs fault. Thank you

I don't think I would waste my money on any of these. They all appear to be very similar with just engine fault codes. No mention of Abs systems .

VCDS formerly known as VagCom is the way to go for VAG vehicles. Spend the money or accept less. Your choice.

Nothing wrong with Delphi diagnostic system, except the model shown in your video is £2000. I would go for that.www.hickleys.com/diagnostics/delphids150.php

VCDS is free to use. You can download the software onto your PC and use it. However, if you want support from Ross Tech and updates, and a guarantee that it will do the job, and with a built in dongle that protects your computer you need to buy a genuine lead from Ross Tech or one of their authorised distributors which includes a licence to use the software. Cheap eBay leads may give access to some functions but they're not guaranteed to work properly and Ross Tech will not support you. Bite the bullet and pay the money. There is nothing better out there for VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda.

I ended up buying this www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01H8N3TEA#Ask

Since it comes with Delphi and seems very reasonable with the price plus Amazon themselves are selling it. If it does not work I can always return. I understand Ebay not being reliable but I have never had issues with Amazon their customer service is excellent and I doubt they are even allowed to sell illegal or cracked software like ebay sellers do. I will update this thread and let you guys know how it goes tomorrow evening. If the software does not work I will just buy the VAG com and take your advice

The description reads it's an EOBD tool. That will give you access to engine emission related data only.

It turns out the product works fine.

Here are the results:

So I am basically getting the same fault codes from 1-2 months ago when the mechanic checked it out. I don't know if I should make a new thread but can anyone tell me what this problem is about 'No engine control unit communicate'? I actually did make a previous thread 1-2 months ago with same problem, the electrician told me to keep driving it until it gets worse and so it has. It was never fixed.

Re "www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01H8N3TEA#Ask"

I'd be somewhat worried that it say's make sure you are not connected to the internet "TURN OFF your internet connection!" - me thinks that looks like pirated software and it tries to phone home

Looking at the fault codes especially re power steering - I'd say your battery is on it's way out!

Pirated software? I find that hard to believe because Amazon are not allowed to do that? Right?? Unless they are unaware of their product is pirated. Oh well, atleast it worked and I had my Internet connection switched on too but I think you are right as the software instructions were dodgy

As for the fault codes what is the solution then? Replace the entire battery? Glow plugs? Or what? In cold weather it has trouble starting the car, mechanic told me it is because of the glow plugs. That is one issue the other issue is the brakes are slow to respond, there is like a small delay when I press the brakes. And the third issue is the car shuts off sometimes randomly while its driving but turns back on fine (it doesn't always happen but it has happened to me during driving or when starting the car). Solutions ??
