Venga Breakdown - I must have done something wrong - oldroverboy.

I must have upset the Gods the other day..when i said i wouldn't change for the moment, till i really have to.

Software failure, immobiliser failure and fuel system failure, (probably fuel pump), car in at the dealers. was loaned a nice new Niro, but out of my price range.

Offered a super price as a PX AND 21% off a carens 2 1.6 petrol, but no room for full size spare.

The search starts now in earnest.

Would be grateful to hear as much about the Niro as you can manage. It would be fairly near the top of my list for cars to replace a petrol Yeti if push came to shove.

31458 miles today. 2 new tyres a few weeks ago, others approx 6mm. rear discs and pads 90% ft 70%. 2 years service pack left and 3.5 years kia warranty. full kia main dealer history.

best genuine offer so far £6547 -7200 .. yes i could not believe it either.

Been running a Niro PHEV for some six months now and am very pleased with it. Previously had a VW Golf V11 but felt that I needed a more upright seating position due to back problems. The Niro proved a good choice as no discomfort experienced on recent 250 mile journey.

Tried various cars and found Niro was the one that suited my needs best. With most of my driving being short trips went for plug in (might not suit most) and, living in Scotland have the advantage of many free charging points compliments of Scottish Government thus much of running in electric mode.

Drawbacks on Niro.

Do not like the foot operated handbrake, getting used to it but do not like it. Friend who drives Mobility car with hand controls loves Niro but has to reject it due to this feature.

Boot on PHEV is adequate but smaller than on Hybrid version and does not have room for spare wheel unless on boot floor. Still manage to get golf clubs and trolley in without folding rear seats/

Fuel consumption has fallen heavily in last few weeks due to low temperatures. PHEV needs petrol engine running to use heater for demisting etc and consumption now down to low 70s, was up nearer 90s in summer.

Watch out for pedestrians in car parks. Goes into electric mode at low speed and people walk out in front as they don't hear you. They rely on ears and do not look!

I take it that the work was all done at no expense under the 7 year warranty. Any reason why not to keep it going - nice new parts for free, and the reason why people buy KIAs in the first place, or so I thought.

Work is indeed under warranty, but they got it at 08.30 this morning, no report tonight, parts required so need to be ordered, software reset and update needed.

For some reason set everything to metric and fuel calculated at 383 kilometres remaining and obviously need to empty tank.

Dealer response was superb by the way.

The itch is back with a vengeance...

If you want a new car then fair enough, happy shopping but don’t let an electrical glitch that will be rectified under warranty push you. That said the part-ex offer is strong but are the cars this is against overpriced?
Venga Breakdown - I must have done something wrong - Avant

Financially it probably makes sense to keep the Venga, especially as it's still under warranty - but if you're feeling like a change, there's a good case for PX-ing it now while you can still get a respectable price for it. Eithr this or run it into the ground.

What's your budget for a change? I'm guessing you'd like another Sitty-Uppy Vehicle but perhaps one that's a little more interesting to drive? Could you run to a newish Suzuki Vitara 1.4T?

If I were after a small car with elevated driving position here’s where my money would go. These hold their money well and dealers will be delighted to get it when you’re done but it does mean buying used and I doubt you’ll get particularly strong money for the Venga but it’ll lose far less money than a Carens plus it’s better on fuel. Yes it’ll have a shorter warranty but they never go wrong.

Speaking of Honda, it's going to be interesting to see how the newer models fare as they age.

Son just sold their 13 plate 38k mile CRV before they emigrated, in the last 5 months the aircon compressor failed, thankfully under Honda extended warranty as circa £1500 job, apparently this is a regular fault but would no doubt be cheaper at an indy, who can't supply any less reliable a unit IMHO.

3 weeks before they left a rear wheel bearing started rumbling, would have taken too long to get it fixed via the warranty (don't like the sound of that, so much for Honda extended warranty), so had to stump up themselves circa £400 because well he's an honourable chap and wouldn't have sold it to his previous work mate knowing there was a problem.

This on a FSH well cared for vehicle without towbar or any signs of abuse, rather worrying a 5 year old low mileage vehicle from this marque would have cost up to £2000 for these repairs, and what next one wonders.

I hope this isn't a sign Honda are going the same way as some German marques, riding on the solid reputations of the previous era, going to be watching with interest.

Can’t say I’m experiencing or hearing of any decline in reliability. Our CRV suffered the common Honda diesel clutch judder issue but was otherwise utterly reliable, not even a rattle and my mother’s Jazz is again proving worry free at 9yrs old, it never misses a beat.

I’ve sold, recommended and vetted loads of CRV’s, Accord’s, Jazz's and Civics in recent years and I’ve not heard a complaint from anyone other than again clutch judder on a CRV 2.2 DTEC. I’d say a wheel bearing away is very unusual and just bad luck. Air con compressors can fail but a/c problems are usually on cars owned by people who never turn the thing on in winter and the seals dry out. Possibly this was just a Friday afternoon car but I certainly would’ve waited for Honda to fix it under warranty even if it meant delaying new owner or letting him have it repaired as the warranty is transferred with ownership. Though wheel bearings are a wear and tear item if it went at low mileage like this is expect at least some goodwill on a car with full Honda history.

What I am watching out for is reports of problems on the new small turbocharged petrol motors. Most manufacturers struggle to make these reliable initially but Honda was late to the game possibly because they wanted to do it right from the off rather than rushing to market like VAG, Ford, Fiat and Renault.

Got no axe to grind and have had a Jazz from new that gave me no trouble at all (wish I hadn't sold it and bought a new Hyuudai i10 with a juddering clutch instead - not a good move).

However it has long surprised me that the CRV has always had a long list of negatives on HJ's review section. I just counted 42 negs. Although, having said that, his list of negatives regarding the Yeti is much the same yet mine has (apart from the DSG recall under warranty) been faultless.

If I were after a small car with elevated driving position here’s where my money would go.

We accidentally looked at one when we were swapping the Note and the wife initially really liked it. But on closer inspection it was pretty expensive and the petrol engine was old school with no turbo, typical Honda with torque at quite rpm, not for us.

But the main issue was as usual the spare wheel. Seem to remember that Honda do not even offer one as an accessory but bizarrely several dealers were offering "Genuine Honda" spare wheel kits in the interweb. And there was a well to fit one into but that creates a new issue. The pretty generous boot capacity quoted by Honda includdes that well (checked it with my own tape, without that well its no bigger than the boot in the Fabia we bought for over £8000 less.

Can’t say I’m experiencing or hearing of any decline in reliability.

Neighbour of ours has a 2015 CRV petrol auto and its been totally reliable, he is more than happy with it.

Don't panic yet, the breakdown could be something as simple as a lose battery or alternator terminal - or a duff cell in the battery. Modern electronics do not like spiky power supplies.

thank you.

Impressions of the Niro, near silent locally.. Fabulous, but out of my price range.

returned same day as dealer bought my venga in for stock.for cash.

Did I miss something? What are you getting instead?

Bit disappointed you didn't have the Niro for longer though .... would have been good to have got some more thoughts on it. Can you remember what model it was?

If it were to be the chosen replacement for the Yeti I'd be back to to the question of how to fund it - presumably I'd trade the Yeti in then would have to decide PCP, lease or cash - or PCP then settle the same week?

Anyway, look forward to seeing what replaces the Venga.

After discussions with the dealer, who really did try to get my business, offering me a very low apr on the balance, when I finally said no, he offered the same in cash as the PX, so took it, and free to negotiate for another vehicle elsewhere. My ex car still sitting forlornly in the car park..

Stonic too small inside for me. with seat adjusted my head touched roof.

Carens fine but no room for spare.

Sportage too expensive even pre reg.

Can't remember if the Niro has a spare wheel?

Venga Breakdown - I must have done something wrong - alteaman

Niro does not have spare wheel, instead has "whippy cream" kit, useless if you have blow out, also renders tyre useless and can cost extra to clean gunge off rim.Spare wheel kit available from The Wheel Shop, £140 for 16" whee and skinny tyre, 1500kg jack and wheel brace.

Venga Breakdown - I must have done something wrong - KB.

So not even available as an option then? Not so good. But, from what you say, there's room for one.?

LATE EDIT.

Should have looked myself earlier .... The Kia forum gives helpful detail and says you can choose between skinny and full size. The full size nicks a bit more space and the skinny leaves room for the tool tray, apparently.
