Peugeot 206 1.1 8v 2003 - 2003 206 1.1 8v misfiring on cylinders 2 and 3 - Matthew Broomfield

Hi I have a 206 1.1 8v, which has a bad misfire, I have replaced the spark plugs, a 2nd hand cool pack, done the head gasket and double checked the timing, it seems to have had 2 injectors replaced on cylinders 3 and 4, but before I owned the car. Spark plugs 1 and 4 are black, 2 and 3 are clean.

Any help would be great many thanks

On first read your second hand coil pack is shot.

Thanks for you fast reply, I will sort another one out. Thanks you

I would also check the resistance of the injectors. each one should be between 12-18 ohms.

Seconded re coil pack

Avoid cheap new coil packs as well, they're renowned for not fixing misfires on 206s. You can identify them by being either rounded or square (sorry can't remember which is the genuine one!)

Hi sorry for the delay in replying, I have now replaced the coil pack with a genuine one, and found injector 2 and 3 are not working, so I have replaced them only to find they still are not working. So I guess it is now electrical, any ideas. Thanks matt

Are these injectors new or s/hand? Also check the injector harness plug that sits just behind and below the plastic inlet manifold (access from rear of engine) Should be a 3 or 5 pin connector.

The injectors are new not messing with second hand now, harness is a 5 pin, but it seems to be clean and I double checked it was fitted correctly, what is it I am lloking for. Thanks

buy a noid light,

less than a tenner

you plug it in to the disconnected injector harness then crank.

if the harness has signal the noid flashes.

Thank you will do.

Although the coil pack is one unit it's actually two coils. The ECM switches one of them for cylinders 1 and 4, and the other for cylinders 2 and 3. Both coils have a common live and a common earth which make up two wires in the four pin plug. The other two are the negatives for each coil which go to the ECM. Make sure you have a switching signal to both coils. If not trace the wiring back to the ECM. If that's good you'll have an internal transistor failed inside the ECM.

Oops. I failed to notice this post has moved onto the fuel injectors. This engine is most likely non-sequential, meaning all injectors operate the same all the time rather than individually. The same principles apply to the ignition coil though. Each injector will have a 12v supply and an earth back to the ECM. The easiest way to test the wiring is with a noid lamp. Plug it into the injector plug and crank the engine. If the light flashes the wiring is good.

Any reason an ordinary test light wouldn't work?

Just wondering. I don't have fuel injection, (or a noid light) but I do have a few test lights.

If I ever get fuel injection I would hope I wouldn't be fiddling with it enough to justify buying special equipment unless it was absolutely essential.

Yes, you could use an ordinary test light, but a noid light is a purpose made light that fits the injector connector more accurately and has solid metal pins for a better connection.

Well a noid light isn't self powered,

mine sits on top of my diagnostics pile,

and pile it is,

I just don't want to think how much it all cost!!

but on any vehicle the noid fits it lighting up on crank tells me that there's injector pulse signal so there's also CAS signal.

customers don't want me plugging in bells and whistles and charging them if it can be helped.

So if I turn up at their home for a non starter plugging a noid light in and asking them to watch for the flashing lamp they are involved and can see/tell me what's going on.

they are happy if it lights up and ~I can tell them what it isn't

for all they cost money well spent.

AND big bonus is there's no pin distortion in use,

something you can't always get with say a multi meter.
