Audi A4 B6 - Power Steering making humming noise - Steveieb
My 2003 A4 Tdi 130 has started making a humming noise from the steering on slow speed turns. It happens whether the engine is hot or cold.
The fluid is up to the level.
Is there any way of telling whether the pump or the rack is causing the problem? The belt seems ok.

Are you sure it's not the alternator pulley. ? These commonly give trouble and can cause all sorts of noises on the poly vee belt run.

As usual Eleckie Doc excellent advice .
The pulley has been refurbished once but probably needs attention again.

My indie has taken a look and says I worry too much and he can find no issues.
The noise is evident on a severe turn when monoevering and sounds like a humming noise.
There is some vibration through the steering column.
Appears to be most evident in cold weather.
The fluid level is OK throughout.
Have you any more thoughts please ?
