2001 306 Hdi - Electrical fault - gavpug

Slowed down at roundabout, car lost power then picked up again. Did this a couple of times more and then stopped and wouldn't start again. Plenty of power in battery but wouldn't fire up, RAC called out but they couldn't find the fault so towed to local garage.

Had ignition on for tow and speedo needle and rev counter flicking to extremes (don't think I was being towed at 110mph!!) and dash lights flickering on and off too.

Any thoughts as to likely problem would be gratefully received,

Loads of thoughts and ideas on this, but sadly very little info to work with. Get the car checked by a garage.

Earth points would be my first guess. Its been some years since I had a 306, but aren't there some hidden under the battery tray?

There's at least 4 if I recall,

all on the passenger side engine bay/chassis leg.

Thanks guys you were both right it was an earthing fault.

The strap from the battery to earth had broken so £7 and we were up and running again thank goodness.
