Bought this car from a none Peugeot dealer over the phone 10 months ago.
As the car I wanted ha to be low miles and a certain spec, bought from this dealer who belongs to another Marque, main dealer.
The 1.6THP is used in BMW's as well as Renaults I think and had a reputation for the timing chain to fail.
I noted a slight rattle from the engine about 2 months ago, ie when we had the car 8 months.
I'm the second owner, the car has full Peugeot service history and I had it service through Peugeot a couple of months ago, the 5th service at about 17700 miles.
We have covered about 700 miles on the car when nosie was first noted and now we have done about 850 miles.
We spent 2 months having the car looked at by the dealers/franchise we bought the car from and Peugeot. Clear to Peugeot that it was timing chain as to me without pulling the engine apart. But we had to pay about 130+ pounds to have this done and the dealers representative that we bought the car from to confirm if it was covered by warranty.
They said the fault not covered under warranty as it is "wear and tear."
I feel that as the fault became apparent when we'd had the car for just under 8 months and had covered only 700 miles that the dealer we bought the car from should cover the cost in full or at the very least in part.
To spend 900+ pounds (check fee and repair) to replace the timing chain and tensioner on a low mileage car that had been fully maintained by the main dealer, it does not feel right. IMO, either the warranty is not fit for the purpose or the car.
We rang the dealer we bought the car from and they will relay my concerns to higher management but felt it was a now win for me as "wear and tear had been noted." and suggested we tried Peugeot customer services.
I bought the car over the phone as it was the main dealer with a good reputation and the car was low mileage and full service history from a main dealer but never expected to throw away 900 pounds having barely covered 700 miles in the car over 8 months or so.
Two months of waiting, going to one showroom to another, about 20 phone calls and many emails I get lumbered with this
Thank you. Patricia.
