I suspect there may have been some hidden problems with the Interceptor in question. The price is competitive and i read recently they are on the up (despite the horrific fuel consumption). Here is one for sale on carandclassic.co.uk at rather more,
www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C911992
Ooof, I'd be very surprised if that actually sells for £165,000, even though prices are on the up as you rightly say.
Cropredy Bridge garage (one of the UK's leading Jensen experts) retails restored & historied cars with warranties, starting from around the £60K mark depending on condition etc. They will approach £90K for exceptional cars.
I could kick myself, as I spent a couple of hours at Cropredy Bridge in 2008 and could have bought a gorgeous, restored, historied SP (the hottest variant) for £20K at the time. A decent runner with 12 months MOT was £9K, unbelievably.
I found the consumption wasn't too bad, to be fair: I got 13.5mpg in the 270 miles in the one I rented. If you own one, it's probably the least of your cost worries :-D
