Ford KA - Ford KA Style 1.3 2005 - Pins/bushes - Bethany Armett
Hello,

As you can see from the title, I own a 2005 1.3 Ford KA Style. I've noticed over the par few days that my car has been making an AWFUL creaking noise going up and down hill. I'll be the first one to admit that I know nothing about cars - my boyfriend and his dad help me out. This is the first car that I've owned and have had it for eight months. It's due it's first MOT with me in September. Anyway, the guy I bought it off gave me his MOT sheet and the advisories were:

Trailing arm has slight play in pin/bush Nearside Rear and
Trailing arm has slight play in pin/bush Offside Rear

Does this sound like something that could make this awful creaking noise going up/down hill? My boyfriend and his dad are away until Saturday and will be looking at it when they come back. Is this something that can be replaced without going to a mechanic? What kind of price am I looking at for the parts? My car is now valued at £290 so I need to weigh up if it'll be worth it to repair these issues. As mentioned, I'm useless when it comes to this kind of thing so any information and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The bushes mentioned should be quite easy to change and worth doing anyway. Never worked on a Ka but have changed on other makes and always been a straight forward job. If they are worn then could quite well cause noise. Never tried it but I know of some people who spray them with silicone spray or WD 40 to make them quiet for a short time.

It would be worth investing in a workshop manual to give more detail on what is required. You can get online ones for peanuts or maybe £20 if you like books. Just looked up Euro car parts and new bushes are £20.99

Might be a wheel bearing causing the problem. Worth raising the wheel off ground and checking for any free play.
