Seat Leon SE 1.6TDI Estate - Space saver vs full wheel spare - Mark Donaghy

Looking for some advice on buying a spare wheel/tyre. Can't seem to find an exact match to what I'm after. I've got 17" alloys and would like to have a spare wheel either full or space saver. Can't find one that is suitable for Leon Estates, or is it that if it works for a hatchback it'll work for the same type of estate? Best place for buying? Cheers.

Ebay, and I can't think why you wouldn't be able to find one, given all the VAG cars that use the same PCD. You'd get new or 2nd hand, steel or alloy, full size or space saver. Make sure there is space in the spare wheel well for a full sized one before buying though!

BTW, the hatch wheel will fit the estate. The details of your wheel fitment are, PCD 5x112, centre bore 57.1, offset 50. If you go on a website such as wheelfitment.eu it will list all the other cars with the same fitment.

mytyres.co.uk sell new steel wheels for many makes. I know someone who got a set for winter tyres (also saves the alloy from salt). They have ones for the Leon at £35 but I was not exact on the model.

My Leon was a 1.4 TSi 140 PS and your 1.6 TDi will have exactly the same sized brakes thus the same spare will fit. I bought a 15" steel wheel from MyTyres fitted with the cheapest non-directional 195/65 x 15 tyre they sold which was about £70 all in fitted and delivered to my door. The 195/55 15 is the standard size on poverty spec Leons. It fitted in the well in the boot with no issues but it raised the floor slightly, not an issue with a Leon estate since its has a huge boot, with my hatch it was a slight issue but with clever packing we coped.

Since it was a different size/material to the other 4 it was classes as a "temporary spare" thus you could only legally do 50 mph, no better than a space saver. But since it was the same overall diameter the car would not have taken on a list like it would with a space saver fitted plus there is not a max distance specified like there is with a space saver, normally 50 to 100 miles (which can be an issue if you are 300 miles from home in the north of Scotland on a Sunday with no tyre shops open).

The spare is still in our shed, unused and I keep intending to put it on e-bay, one day I will get around to it.

Thanks all. Spoke to one of the ebay shops suggested and they've confirmed what I need so will buy over the next few days. Cheers!
