Fabia II TDI 1.6 CR 2010 - Diesel Engine stalling. Blocked injectors? - BlueFabiaDieselTDI1.6CR

Hello,

I run the tank down to 10miles remaining and since then it has cut out on hills and had some stutters when around 1000rpm.

Just read that this car needs long runs and rev blasts to clean out the engine. Which I dont do as its short country return trips a few times a week at 60mph for 7miles at a time and odd weekly 35miles return journeys.

Can I just clean the injectors with a fuel addistive like "trade" Forte or carlube etc?

Or would it need ultrasonic cleaning or more drastic work?

There is a glow plug symbol flashing which is a general fault symbol apparently, going to get it plugged into diagnostics at the garage tomorrow.

Thanksvery much for any help

Get the diagnostic system checked first.Hope it’s not the injectors which are known to be problematic on the 1.6 engine. I think they are around £300 each, and you have 4 of them.May just be a blocked fuel filter.

I would second the fuel filter.

Same here. Change filter, half a tank of pemium fuel and then the old "Italian Tuneup"

It's in my opinion that running the tank low doesn't make any difference as the fuel is drawn from the bottom anyway and when you drive around the stored fuel really sloshes around. That's why you need baffles - to stop the fuel running to the back of the tank as you accelerate up a hill (or to the side as you go around corners or the front as you brake).

Any contaminants should be caught by the fuel filter anyway - that is what it's for.

Has it EVER been mis-fuelled with petrol?

Hmm, just had a second thought. Does the Fabia have a saddle tank with a pump transferring fuel between either side? If that has failed you'll get some wierd issues if the tank is not fullish.

[Edit] Don't think this an issue with the Fabia - the Yeti has a saddle tank though
