Hi - I was driving along merrily yesterday when my 2014 reg Passat's engine management warning light started flashing and the care went into limp mode. My local independent VW specialist have diagnosed an EGR problem. That sounds like quite a common problem and there is quite a bit of press coverage linking this to the emissions fix (which I had done about 10 months ago). I've read some reports that in some cases VW have covered the cost of getting this fixed.
Does anyone have any experience of this?
I'm waiting for a quote from my independent but they estimate £600-£700, so obviously I'm keen to avoid this if I can. But the dealer wants £60 for the 2 min job of plugging in a laptop and reading the fault codes, so I don't want to fork out for that if I'm going to get nowhere.
Any thoughts on whether it's worth a try with a dealer?
