@CB

I used this recently to clean my DPF in an ST TDCI - Granville 1472 10K Boost Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaner. Should only need to do this once per year if using good diesel fuel.

Too many short journeys in the cold around Xmas had put the EML on for first time in nearly 3 years.

Ref Qashqai Clutch,
RF writes "My driving technique cannot be called into question" sadly a lot of people have forgotten how to drive correctly how many times are you sitting at a junction and the car next to you is moving backwards and forwards as the driver holds the car on the clutch and this is something you see more and more nowdays so clearly there are people that do burn their clutches out. But of course it is never their fault !

Yes you are right. How many fail to use the handbrake at junctions and in slow traffic?

I've noticed that with my company car, I am sometimes guilty of it. And then there are those who sit with their foot on the brake, dazzling the driver behind.....

I agree with the previous comments about people riding the clutch at junctions or in jig-jog traffic. Sometimes it can't be helped (as I've found) in slow moving traffic, as stopping, applying the handbrake, waiting for the vehicle in front to (crawling below walking pace) move enough ahead to be able to full engage first gear will often allow enough of a gap to encourage some idiot in another lane to jump into the gap, and as a consequence, also encourage (if it happens more than once) drivers behind to get annoyed or worse.

This is the reason I was considering a TC auto when I was looking (now aborted) to replace my current manual car - first gear in my Mazda3 1.6p mk1 is often very fierce (even when the car is fully warmed up) and control below 5mph without slipping the clutch is often tricky (the dealership cannot see any problems) as it wants to race away. Other gears are fine.

I still suspect its could be an issue with a sticky throttle body plate and/or (less likely, but possible) dirty MAF sensor - unfortunately the dealership doesn't want to entertain 'just' cleaning both, probably because its far less financially lucrative than replacing the parts. Both are (on my model variant, far better on the 2 ltr version) are difficult to get to for the less DIY-minded and I won't trust an indie to do the work unless they are highly recommended (for competency) by more than one person I trust locally.

If your car is 5 year old, it likely isnt the latest Euro 6 and why you havent had problems with 3 or 4 mile journeys.

If CC is bothered about any (probably marginal if HJ's response is [likely] correct) effects on the battery in their Mazda3 by 'over use' of the start-stop facility, then I would advocate 'switching it off' using the 'button' on the 'dash'.

Whilst it apparently cannot be permanently turned off using the button (without mucking around with the onboard computer system, which I'm sure invalidates the warranty and any goodwill for repairs of such systems thereafter) - it defaults back to 'on' every time the car is switched off and restarted - owners just have to remember to switch it off if they wish. Not brilliant (probably done so in order to meet the lower CO2 grouping), but at least, unlike many other makes, you can do it at all.
