rover streetwise 2.0 TD - lack of performance - KCSRenault

Hello,

I recently was bought a trade in rover streetwise from a car dealer, i got the car for a very good price as we thought the car needed a new clutch and it turned out just to need a new cable and some adjustement to clutch arm.

Anyway the car has no power to it, it will cruise quite happily at 70mpg when it gets there. It is slow to accelerate and loses power on steep hills. A turbo diesel i had in the past a Renault megane, used to go like stink compared with this car.

No noises or anything nasty sounding, however just not enough go, are these engines just like this or does something need tweaking. I have replaced the MAf sensor and this has made no difference, there are no warning lights and the car has recently had a full service, all filters etc.

Anyone with any knowledge of these engines, local garage cannot find a fault, but they said alot of these older l series have the same lack of performance is this true

?

I dont mind spending money on it as i got it for such a good price and the car drives lovely just lack of power,

thanks

rover streetwise 2.0 TD - lack of performance - The Gingerous One

Hi,

the 2L diesel in it is the L-series and I have a Rover 600 with the same. It shouldn't have a lack of performance, it's reasonably sprightly from about 50->70mph in 5th (floor it when coming out of roadworks on motorway, it should take off quite well).

So you definately have a problem.

but if you work your way through the list on the MG Rover forum you should be able to find out what it is.

mine hasn't gone wrong (yet) so I can't help you pinpoint the issues, but on the whole the L-series has a reputation for reliability and bulletproofness. The issues are all well known about.

Hope it's all on it's way to be sorted now....?

cheers
