Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.8 - 2004 Citroën Picasso 1.8 keeps blowing fuse 15 - Matthew Broomfield

Hi can anyone help, I have a Citroën xsara Picasso 1.8 executive on a 54 plate. The eml light came on and displaying engine fault on the dash. The next day I got to the end of the road and it cut out and would not restart.

I have replaced the crank sensor and the cam sensor no joy. I then found that fuse 15 under the bonnet had blown, I replaced it car start but when I tried to revise it back on the drive the fuse blow again. The fuse is for the following.

F15 30A - Ignition coil - downstream oxygen sensor - upstream oxygen sensor - cylinder injector 1 - cylinder injector 2 - cylinder injector 3 - cylinder injector 4 - purge canister solenoid valve - diesel injection pump - EGR + butterfly electrovalve - carburettor or throttle housing heater resistor - all or nothing solenoid valve (EGR) - diesel fuel heater

Could it be a faulty ignition coil.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks matt

Hi, by any chance did you find out what the issue was?

I have the same year and model Picasso and I am having the same issue with the F15 fuse keep blowing.

I had two mechanics do diagnostics one of which was Citroen specialist and was told by both that it was a problem with ECU. (Both who missed the blown fuse ) I had the ECU sent off for testing and there was nothing wrong with it. I then checked all the fuses myself and found the blown one. I replaced it and car started, then it blows again after a few miles. After looking at manual and seeing what it powers my next thought was faulty ignition coil. I’m reluctant to fork out more money for another diagnostic and was hoping if you managed to fix it and could possible steer me in right direction.

Any info would be helpful

Thanks

I would run the engine with both lambda sensors disconnected to see if that makes any difference.

anyone come back with the answer why it blows yet?

When our Focus (petrol) fuel pump started to fail it blew a 15 amp fuse, and replacing it with a 20amp got us where we wanted to go, and then onwards for repair. Presumably the initial split second surge of power to persuade the stiff seizing bearing of the pump to start working blew the fuse. But to blow a 30 amp fuse requires a serious amount of power - around 400 watts if the alternator is working at 14 volts. Possibly a wire chafing to earth? Might be as well to carry a fire extinguisher!

Bad earth would be my guess.
